Hydroponics Info

Essential gardening for the future of our environment

What is Hydroponics?

Hydroponics is the science of gardening without soil.
In hydroponic gardening systems, plants are placed
in a growing medium and nutrients are provided
directly to the roots. The word Hydroponic comes
from Latin and means "working water". Simply put, it is
the art of growing plants without soil.

If you were to grow two genetically identical plants
side by side, one grown in soil and one grown
hydroponically, you would immediately see the
difference. Faster, better growth and much greater
yields are some of the many reasons that hydroponics
is being adopted worldwide for commercial food
production as well as a growing number of home and
hobby gardeners.

Did You Know...

Hydroponics saves water?
Recycling hydroponics systems
use as little as 10% of the
water that traditional
agriculture requires.
Hydroponic lettuce for
example, uses 90% less water
than the traditional soil farming.

Did You Know...

Hydroponics can happen
where ordinary agriculture or
gardening is impossible?
People living in crowded city
streets, without gardens, can
grow fresh vegetables and
fruits in window-boxes or on
roof tops.

Did You Know...

Hydroponics is essential to the
future of our environment? As
arable land rapidly declines -
more than 10 million hectares
per year are lost due to
foresting and traditional
agriculture methods -
hydroponics is on the rise!
Hydroponic gardens can
produce the same yield as soil
gardens in about 1/5 the space.
